Continuity

Business Continuity or Disaster Recovery is insurance that makes sense, but must be scaled appropriately to your business. It is a a simple idea, which can become very complicated to execute. Don’t worry, we are here to help!

One of the most important aspects of Continuity is sizing your solution appropriately for your business.

Keep in mind all your moving parts and try to automate as much as possible. You can have plans within plans, as long as they are automated. Once you fall back to manual actions for your Disaster Recovery solution, you are relying on the human variable. Lets say this involves your senior network administrator “flipping a switch” for your datacenter, I have news for you. In the case of a family threatening emergency, nobody is going to help your business. You should expect your employees to take care of themselves first.

Experience has taught me that it is almost never appropriate to start with Recovery Time Objectives or Recovery Point Objectives. The reason why is that the costs for these solutions start reasonable, but rise extremely quickly as you close the gap on RTO or RPO. In almost all cases, price becomes the primary factor for continuity solutions beyond meeting basic compliance.

Talk to us about your needs, and we will help you find an appropriately sized solution.

  • Describe the backup objectives you would like to accomplish. Often this is measured as a Recovery Point. How often do you want to back up data? So what is the minimum amount of data that can be lost? 1H? 1D? 1 Minute? (Feel free to be as detailed as you want.)
  • Describe your Recovery Time. Did you want to be able to restore the lost data within 24H? 48H? 1H? 1 Minute?
